Adrian Munteanu (b. 1948)

WITH OPEN ARMS

With open arms, don’t greet me on your threshold;
Your home is haunted by a hunchback silence,
Which hides in darkest corners, in defiance
Of frozen memories, which grip my world.

Poetry in Translation (CCCXC), ROMANIA, Adrian MUNTEANU (b. 1948, Braşov): “Ia-mă de mână! Mit 3”, “Take My Hand! – Myth 3”

Forget me not, whilst trying to distinguish,

In vain, the image of an elusive cast,

As I can hardly see afar the blemish

Of distant sails and of a tilted mast…

Discard the oar and let the doubt to perish…

Give me your hand, take me afar, at last.

POETRY IN TRANSLATION (CCCLXXXVIII): Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475-1564), Italy/Tuscany: “Bătrâneţe”

March 20th, 2016 · Comments Off on POETRY IN TRANSLATION (CCCLXXXVIII): Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475-1564), Italy/Tuscany: “Bătrâneţe” · Books, Famous People, International Media, PEOPLE, Poetry, quotations, Translations

În cursul vieţii lungi ce am avut
Bătrâna barcă vântul a-nfruntat
S-ajungă-n portul unde-a ancorat
Să ispăşesc păcate din trecut.

Mânat de fantezia mea şi arta
Din care am creat un Dumnezeu
Iluziile şi vanitatea, tot mereu
M-au amăgit, ademenindu-mi soarta.

Visul de-amor acum e prea puţin…
Ce-oi deveni, să mor de două ori,
O dat-aici şi-o alta la răscruce …

Sculptura, arta nu mai pot să-nchin
Când Duhul Sfânt mă chiamă-n zi de zori
Să fiu martir cu braţele pe cruce.

POETRY IN TRANSLATION (CCCLXXXVI): Adrian MUNTEANU (b. 1948-Brasov), ROMANIA – “Scriu un sonet. Deplină amăgire”, “The Sonnet – an Eternal Tease”

March 18th, 2016 · 1 Comment · International Media, PEOPLE, Poetry, quotations, Translations

Adrian MUNTEANU
(b. 1948, Brasov)
“The Sonnet – an Eternal Tease”

I write a sonnet as a constant tease –
Its rules are there to liberate my dream,
To be myself and follow, as I seem
To play with empty words of love and ease.

Poetry in Translation (CCCLXXIII), ROMANIA, Adrian MUNTEANU (b. 1948, Brasov, Romania): “Sonet”, “Sonnet”

January 19th, 2016 · 1 Comment · Books, Famous People, International Media, OPINION, PEOPLE, Poetry, quotations, Translations

My heart is melting, by the candlelight,
I’m just a pitiful, stray dog, without repose…
My body, torn to pieces, couldn’t fight.

My sins, which are untold, are worthless dross…
I’m loath and fearful of the coming spite:
You are my only Hope, my Holy Cross.

Poetry in Translation (CCCLVII), Syed FAIZAN (b. 1987, INDIA): “The Riot”, “Răzmeriţa”

September 16th, 2015 · No Comments · Famous People, International Media, PEOPLE, Poetry, quotations, Translations

The Riot
Syed FAIZAN
Upon the horizon a crowd of men,
Appears with Crosses, Swords, Trishuls; aloud
Invoke a ‘Christ’, a ‘Ram’, an ‘Allah’, then
They kill, rape, rob and burn; until a cloud
Răzmeriţa
Syed FAIZAN
Dar iată dintr-odat’ un pâlc străin
Agită cruci, pistoale şi-şi bat joc:
Iisus, Allah, sau Bud-auzi din plin…
Ucid şi pângăresc, iau pradă şi dau foc…

Poetry in Translation (CCCLI), Constantin Virgil GHEORGHIU (1916-1992) ROMANIA, FRANCE: ”Sonnet”, “Sonet”

August 22nd, 2015 · Comments Off on Poetry in Translation (CCCLI), Constantin Virgil GHEORGHIU (1916-1992) ROMANIA, FRANCE: ”Sonnet”, “Sonet” · Diaspora, Famous People, International Media, PEOPLE, Poetry, quotations, Translations

Virgil Gheorghiu, Sonet (fragment):
Asemeni lui, purtând un vis în minte,
Poeţii îşi ating desăvârşirea
Zidind iubirea vieţii în cuvinte.
Now minstrels sing his praise and utter Glory
The good and great will bring his fame abroad:
His monument to Love enshrines his Story.

Poetry in Translation, (CCXCIII), Mihai CODREANU (1875, Iaşi -1957, Iaşi), ROMANIA: “Corbii”, “The Ravens”

September 2nd, 2014 · Comments Off on Poetry in Translation, (CCXCIII), Mihai CODREANU (1875, Iaşi -1957, Iaşi), ROMANIA: “Corbii”, “The Ravens” · PEOPLE, Poetry, quotations, Translations

The sky is darkened and the stars are blinded
As whirlwinds cause my body to be blighted…
With greater force I’m carried by the storm…

As ravens guessing that I am forlorn,
They dart straight to my heart, which is half-dead,
To quench their beastly thirst, of dragon’s head.

Nu văd în zări nici urma unei stele;
Doar viscolul din gândurile mele
Tot mai pornit prin gerul lui mă poartă…

… Iar corbii, presimţindu-şi trista pradă,
Spre inima-mi pe jumătate moartă
Îşi năpustesc sălbatica grămadă…

Poetry in Translation, (CCLXXXVI) Michelangelo BUONARROTI (1475-1564), ITALY/TUSCANY: “Sonnet Nr. 70” , “Sonet Nr 70”

April 28th, 2014 · No Comments · Books, International Media, Poetry, quotations, Translations

Michelangelo BUONARROTI
Sonet Nr. 70

Poetry in Translation, (CCLXXXIV) Michelangelo BUONARROTI (1475-1564), ITALY/TUSCANY: “Sonnet Nr. 50”

April 14th, 2014 · No Comments · International Media, PEOPLE, Poetry, quotations, Translations

Michelangelo BUONARROTI
“Sonet L”

Direct spre pieptul trupului amar,
Ca Pacea s-o găsesc printre cei Drepţi.
