Poetry in Translation (CCXXXIV – CCXXXVI): Ion CAROIAN (1923, Romania – 1986, Switzerland): “Hope”, “Snow” and “You are weary Wanderer”

December 7th, 2013 · Comments Off on Poetry in Translation (CCXXXIV – CCXXXVI): Ion CAROIAN (1923, Romania – 1986, Switzerland): “Hope”, “Snow” and “You are weary Wanderer” · Diaspora, International Media, PEOPLE, Poetry, quotations

“You are weary, wanderer”
Ion CAROIAN (1923-1986)

“You are weary, wanderer,
As we are filing in a single line, hooded,
(a fistful of nothingness).
They – the ignorant retainers,
Digested through the stomach of time.
They – the decent rabble.
Give Caesar his dues!
As for the rest, to Hell!”

Poetry in Translation (CCXXX): Anonymous, ENGLAND, “Tristia ex Londiniae”

Tristia ex Londiniae

To say I think of You, for
Ever, it is True!

Am like a lion in a cage, the
More I pine for our Trysts,
Of Treasures that I missed!

Day after day,
I’m hostage in the jaws
Of Love that ever was!

Poetry in Translation (CCXX): Aleksandr SOLZHENITSYN (1918-2008), Russian Poet, “Confession”, “Spovedanie”

November 7th, 2013 · 1 Comment · International Media, PEOPLE, Poetry, quotations, Translations

How easy it is to live with You, O Lord.
How easy to believe in You.
When my spirit is overwhelmed within me,
When even the keenest see no further than the night,
And know not what to do tomorrow,
You bestow on me the certitude
That You exist and are mindful of me,
That all the paths of righteousness are not barred.
As I ascend in to the hill of earthly glory,
I turn back and gaze, astonished, on the road
That led me here beyond despair,
Where I too may reflect Your radiance upon mankind.
All that I may reflect, You shall accord me,
And appoint others where I shall fail

Poetry in Translation (CCXIX): Vasko POPA (1922-1991), SERBIAN -VLACH, Poet of Serbo-Croat Expression, “Soare Orb”, “Blind Sun”

Two blighted legs
Holding a blind Sun.

The morning rays – gone to work
On the other side of the sky,
Rather than its threshold.

The Noon is beyond the Pale.
Cavorting with thunders,
She’s never at home.

The evening takes to the road,
The bedstead on her back,
She’s begging on some constellation.

Only the Night appears,
With outstretched arms,
To welcome a blind Sun.

Poetry in Translation (CCXVI): Ferruccio GRECO, Poet of CALABRIA, “Tenerezze ”, “O mamă Calabreză

September 30th, 2013 · Comments Off on Poetry in Translation (CCXVI): Ferruccio GRECO, Poet of CALABRIA, “Tenerezze ”, “O mamă Calabreză · International Media, PEOPLE, Poetry, quotations, Translations, Uncategorized

O mamă Calabreză

Abea doi ani de-aveam, şi îmi aduc aminte
Cum visuri din trecut în suflet se perindă.
Cât de amar plângeam, cu lacrimă fierbinte,
Iar mama mă strângea, la pieptu-i să m-alinte;

Poetry in Translation (CCXV): Anonymous, ROMANIA, “The Ecologic Princess and Prince Charming“, “Prinţesa Ecologică şi Făt Frumos”

September 23rd, 2013 · Comments Off on Poetry in Translation (CCXV): Anonymous, ROMANIA, “The Ecologic Princess and Prince Charming“, “Prinţesa Ecologică şi Făt Frumos” · International Media, Poetry, quotations, Translations, Uncategorized

Once upon a time,
In far-away lands,
There was a beautiful princess
Who just found a frog
Whilst she was contemplating ecologic aspects,
On the shore of an unpolluted lake,
In a green meadow
(recently re-granted by the Constitutional Court).

A fost odată
Ca nici odată
Şi dacă n-ar fi
Nu s-ar povesti.
A fost odată,
Pe meleaguri îndepărtate,
O mandră prinţesă
Care tocmai zări o broască,
În timp ce contempla aspecte ecologice,
Pe malul unui lac nepoluat,
Dintr-o luncă verde,
Lâng-un vechi castel,
(Restituit de Curtea Constituţională).

Poetry in Translation (CCXI): Paul ANCEL, aka Paul CELAN, (b. 1920, Bucovina, Romania – d. 1970, Paris), ROMANIA, “Whichever stone you lift”, “Orice lespede de-ai ridica”

September 4th, 2013 · Comments Off on Poetry in Translation (CCXI): Paul ANCEL, aka Paul CELAN, (b. 1920, Bucovina, Romania – d. 1970, Paris), ROMANIA, “Whichever stone you lift”, “Orice lespede de-ai ridica” · Diaspora, PEOPLE, Poetry, quotations, Translations

Paul CELAN
Orice lespede ai ridica
vei desveli doar
pe cei ce au nevoie de adăpostul lespezilor:
despuiaţi,
ei se strâng iarăşi împreună.
Orice arbore de-ai tăia
vei ridica, doar,
din nou, patul
sufletelor adormiţilor,
ca şi cum veşnicia
n-ar mai zvâcni.
Orice cuvânt ai rosti
îl datorezi
prigoanei.

IN MAREA TRECERE
Giovanni Maria CHERCHI
(b. 1928, Alghero, Sardinia)

În zorii zilei, din depărtare,
oile trec agale,
peste culmi,
spre pajişti noi.
Dimineaţa oamenii aud
turma trecând prin sat
în ritm de copite
cu mieii behăind
şi câinii lătrând.
În somnul lor, copiii aud
clopoţeii timizi ai mieilor,
în visul lor, închipuindu-şi
că le aud din inimă
în timp ce turma albă
se indreaptă către soare, spre pajişti nevăzute.

Poetry in Translation (CXCIII): Ignazio DELOGU, Sardinia, (1928 – 2011), “Sa terra mia”, “La mia terra”, “Pământul meu”, “My Land”

June 5th, 2013 · Comments Off on Poetry in Translation (CXCIII): Ignazio DELOGU, Sardinia, (1928 – 2011), “Sa terra mia”, “La mia terra”, “Pământul meu”, “My Land” · International Media, PEOPLE, Poetry, quotations, Translations, Uncategorized

Pământul meu
Ignazio Delogu (1928 – 2011)

Pământul meu
este o piatră
de sete și dureri.
Pământul meu
este o pâine
fierbinte ca inima.
Pământul meu
este un râu
de ură și resentimente.
Pământul meu
este o rochie de mireasă
pentru dragostea mea
Pământul meu
este o bijuterie nestemată
pentru miner.
Pământul meu
este steaua
ce călăuzește păstorul.
Pământul meu
este ca ultimul val
pentru pescar.

My land
is a stone
of thirst and pain.
My land
is a bread
as hot as my heart.
My land
is a river
of hatred and resentment.
My land
is a bride’s wedding gown
for my love.
My land
is a precious stone
for the miner.
My land
is the morning star
guiding the shepherd.
My land
is the fisherman’s
last wave.

Poetry in Translation (CLXXVI – CLXXXII): Robert Creeley (1926 – 2005), USA, Seven Poems

April 6th, 2013 · Comments Off on Poetry in Translation (CLXXVI – CLXXXII): Robert Creeley (1926 – 2005), USA, Seven Poems · International Media, Poetry, quotations, Translations

STILL
Still the same
day?
Tomorrow.

ÎNCĂ
(Robert Creeley)
Încă aceeaşi
zi?
Mâine.

Poetry in Translation (CLXXVIII): Robert Creeley (1926 – 2005), USA, “Do you think…”, “Crezi, oare…”

DO YOU THINK?
(Robert Creeley)

CREZI OARE?
(Robert Creeley)
