conform scenariului dinainte stabilit
bine pus la punct
până la urmatoarea întâlnire ilicită
care poate nu va mai avea rost
niciodată.

Poetry in Translation (CCCXXVII), Grażyna CHROSTOWSKA (1921-1942), POLAND: “I would wander”, “Mă-ntreb…”, (Wędrowałabym…)

Then, we will go out into the winter storm
To walk against the wind,
As we always do, as we did before,
Then we part – happily, just with a smile,
Till the next rendezvous – after quite a while.

IN MEMORIAM
We shall remain prostrate by Gravity
And our latent self-esteem,
As we will lose all our levity
And the professional pipe dream…
Don’t cry, you, milligal and lonely oersted,
As the old man died, with alacrity.
Therefore, we shall stampede, in earnest,
To grab his seat, at the Academy.
But, mindful of the world’s Ecology,
We’ll mummify his body for the Nations,
To be preserved for future generations
And be admired by Humanity.
And as we’ll find him pickled, in preserves,
Displayed amongst the vile orangutans,
We shall forgive him his shenanigans,
To grant him the respect that he deserves.

Poetry in Translation (CCCXVII): Constantin ROMAN (b. 1941), ROMANIA/ENGLAND – “Abbot Kir”, “Abatele Kir“

Epigram
Our good Abbot Kir
Had a dream rather queer,
Even though, he agreed, somewhat vain…
To his flute of Champagne
He would add some cassis
And he found the result utter bliss!

“Should one of us remember,
And one of us forget,
I promise you what I will do—
And I’m content to wait for you,
And not be sure as yet.”
De ne vom aminti cândva,
Căci unul dintre noi, poate-ar uita,
Eu o să-ţi spun ce-aşi face:
Aşi fi felice să te-aştept,
Dar încă nu o pot s-o cred.

Suicide in the Trenches
Siegfried Sassoon (1886-1967)
I knew a simple soldier boy
Who grinned at life in empty joy,
Slept soundly through the lonesome dark,
And whistled early with the lark.
Ştiam, odată, un copil-erou,
Ce surâdea la luptă, în război…
Dormind un somn de visuri, în tranşeu,
Fiind dimineaţa, treaz, la lupte noi.

Ballad of the Ages
Wilhelm BUSCH, Theodore FONTANE & Eugen ROTH
When you’re a kid, your life’s a breeze
A time to do just as you please
But being small you’re much too keen
To grow into a sulky teen.
At eighteen, though, you blithely say
By twenty I’ll be tired and grey
But when you duly reach that stage
Why, thirty seems a ripe old age.
And in your fourties what you fear
Is tour approaching fiftieth year
But when it comes, lo and behold…
You really don’t feel all that old!
