The hour arborescent in the shelter of evening.
That voluptuous taffeta of sense.
And life,
which binds severe moments.
A lit blade of grass touches the tremulous flesh,
elaborates the happy flowering of what’s lost.
Nothing is shipwrecked definitively.
The viola turns into sheer silk.
Great scars receive their oils.

The Gods turned the soil
hid the gold under the stones
but the strangers found it
The spirits and the underworld people fled
hid in the mountain
but were nevertheless disturbed
How dare they
challenge gods and spirits

Just a little more
Giorgos SEFERIS (1900 – 1971)
Just a little more
And we shall see the almond trees in blossom
The marbles shining in the sun
The sea, the curling waves.
Just a little more
Let us rise just a little higher.
Un pic mai mult
Giorgos SEFERIS (1900 – 1971)
Un pic mai mult
Şi o să vedem pomii înfloriţi,
Marmura sclipind în soare,
Marea şi valurile spumegând.
Un pic mai mult
Lăsaţi-ne să ne ridicăm puţin mai sus.

Poetry in Translation (CCIV): Eleftherios IOANNOU, CYPRUS, “The coin”, “Un leu”
The coin
Eleftherios IOANNOU (Cyprus)
Many ignore you.
What’s a dime for a tip?
But I was cold and alone
in the street.
When I bend to pick you up.
Un leu
Eleftherios IOANNOU (Cipru)
Mulţi te sfidează:
Ce-i un leu pentru un bacşiş?
Dar mie mi-era frig şi eram singur
pe stradă
Când m-am aplecat să te iau.

Poetry in Translation (CCIII): Brian B. J. FARRUGIA, MALTA, “Hey! butterfly! butterfly!”, “Hei! fluture! fluture!”
August 10th, 2013 · No Comments · International Media, Poetry, quotations, Translations, Uncategorized
Hey! butterfly! butterfly!
Brian B. J. Farrugia (Malta)
Hey! butterfly! butterfly!
Wait for me,
and tell me of your dreams.
Have you danced with fairies gay
and found your love and life?
Have you sipped the sweetest gold
and rest on the finest beds?
Hey, butterfly, butterfly
Come on me,
Hei! fluture! fluture!
Brian FARRUGIA (Malta)
Hei! fluture! fluture!
stai puţin
să-mi dezvălui visele tale.
Ai bătut hora cu zânele
să-ţi găseşti dorul şi viaţa?
Ai sorbit cea mai dulce miere
în cel mai frumos iatac?
Hei! fluture! fluture!

I am with you. However far you are,
I know you’re near!
The setting sun sets stars up over me.
I want you here!

Eternity:
“I too have taken a few steps on the sands of Eternity.”
Constantin BRANCUSI
Exile:
“I cry, with Psalm 136, the captivity of Babylon. For me, like for the Jews deported to Babylon, it is no longer imaginable to write poems in exile. I lost my country, my people is captive. The exile shuts the mouth”
Virgil GHEORGHIU,
Exile:
“You are suffering for being far away from your kith and kin, from the sky and the land where you were born. You should know that one and the same sky covers our wounded land and that your exile is only an initiation. Do not be sad during your stay in Tomis, rather prepare yourself for the life beyond, the eternal life, which is not far, where suffering is unknown, as the time finds its meaning only within the confines of suffering.”
