Timpul care îl dai, timpul
care îl iei, grăunte de nisip,
care îţi orbeşte ochiul.
Frăgezimea jocului şi pielea ta

“Continental Drift” offered me a relaxing excellent read full of humour, humanity, wisdom and good science, way beyond the History of Science. This book is an Ode to the Joy of Freedom, of a kind celebrated in Enesco’s Rhapsodies, or the cosmic vision of Brancusi’s “Column of Infinity”: this is Constantin Roman’s “Ninth Symphony”. I trust the reader would share with me pleasures that have derived from reading ‘Continental Drift’.

“Te iubesc!”- a spus ea, surprinsă să fi rostit-o prima oară,
Şi intrebându-se cum ar fi: a descoperit
O situaţie interesantă!

“Şi eu te iubesc!”- a răspuns el, repetând o frază obişnuită,
Plină de anticipări nefaste, şi sperând
Sa o îmbrobodească şi pe ea.

‘I love you’, she said, never having said it before,
And wondering what it was like; she found it
An interesting experience.

‘I love you too’, he said, having said it many times
For nefarious purpose, and hoping it would
Work with her as well.

Muzica este hrana iubirii.
Ador muzica.

Scriu versuri.
Scriu versuri şi cumpăr haine vechi.
Vând haine vechi ca să cumpăr muzică.
O, dac-aş putea, doar, să fiu un peşte intr-o sticlă de brandy …

I buy old clothes.
I buy old clothes and cut them into stars.
Music is the food of love.
I love music.

I write poetry.
I write poetry and buy old clothes.
I sell old clothes and buy music;
If I could also be a fish in a bottle of booze…

Two blighted legs
Holding a blind Sun.

The morning rays – gone to work
On the other side of the sky,
Rather than its threshold.

The Noon is beyond the Pale.
Cavorting with thunders,
She’s never at home.

The evening takes to the road,
The bedstead on her back,
She’s begging on some constellation.

Only the Night appears,
With outstretched arms,
To welcome a blind Sun.

Când soarele-şi purta cernită faţa,
Plângând durerea zeilor din ceruri,
M-a dezarmat, surprins, şi fără vlagă,
Privirea ta ce m-a făcut ostatec.

Putere nu aveam să fug, pribeagul,
Căci suferind, adânc, atunci plecat-am
Fără-ndoieli, mereu urmându-mi soarta,
Când dintr-odată m-a lovit necazul.

Când dorul m-a surprins, aflându-şi calea
Direct în suflet, aţintind săgeata,
Nestăvilind a plânsului şuvoaie.

Căci mie-mi pare-o lipsă de onoare,
Fiind înarmat cu arcul, să se-ascundă,
Să mă rănească în această stare!

L’ouvrage que vous, lecteur, tenez entre vos mains n’est pas à proprement parler un ouvrage de théologie. D’ailleurs, l’auteur n’en aurait pas la prétention. Il s’agit en revanche d’un livre dans lequel Mircea Milcovitch a consigné l’ensemble de la logique biblique, de son intelligence de la foi chrétienne, qu’il a, au préalable, fait valider au fur et à mesure par de nombreuses conversations avec des théologiens de l’Institut Saint‑Serge de Paris (surtout Constantin Andronikof), et des moines‑théologiens du monastère bénédictin de Chevetogne, en Belgique.
